Pond Hockey
Pond Hockey Resources
The purpose of the pond hockey leagues is to give participants an opportunity to improve skating skills, learn the game of hockey, and have fun. Teams are co-ed. Volunteer coaches are needed. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 218-828-2320 if you would like to coach, or for more information.
The pond hockey league is for youth of ages 7 - 10 (Penguins) and 11 - 15 (Polar Bears). Whatever the player's age is on January 1, 2021 determines the age classification for this program.
The registration fee is $42. The registration deadline has been extended to Friday, January 8, 2021. There will be a $10 late fee for registrations received January 9-14, 2021.

Polar Bears
A "drive through" equipment handout is tentatively scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Mill Avenue Park. Parents who register online on or after the deadline should bring proof of registration. Helmets, elbow pads, and shin pads are provided. Goaltender equipment is also provided. Participants must provide their own sticks, skates, mouth guards, and gloves.
If we exceed the minimum registrations needed, we will move forward with stations/skill style practices the week of January 18 at Mill Avenue Park. The status of playing games is currently restricted by the state COVID guidelines.
Coaches determine the practice schedule, usually at 6 p.m., once or twice per week. Games are usually played on Saturday mornings at Mill Avenue Park or Nisswa, depending on the schedule. Starting in February, some games will be played in the evenings during normally scheduled practice times.
Polar Bears (ages 11 - 15) play at 10 a.m., and Penguins (ages 7 - 10) play at 11 a.m. on Saturdays.
