How can I schedule a tour of the Brainerd Police Department?

To schedule a tour of the Brainerd Police Department, please contact our office during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and provide the following information:

The date and time you would like a tour;
What type of group will be touring the building (daycare, school, boy scouts, girl scouts, etc.);
Age of group;
Size of group; and
Contact information.

We will do our best to accommodate your request; however, it may be necessary for you to choose an alternate date and/or time.

I lost my cell phone and my cell phone carrier says I need a police report in order to get reimbursed for my phone.

The Brainerd Police Department is unable to write a ‘police report’ for lost property as it is not a crime. We are, however, able provide you with an ‘incident report’ documenting that you contacted us to report that you lost your phone.

I locked my keys in my car. Will the police respond to open my vehicle?

The Brainerd Police Department will only respond to vehicle lock-outs in emergency situations, such as a small child being locked in the vehicle. For non-emergency situations, please contact a lock smith or a towing company.

Does the Brainerd Police Department provide fingerprinting services?

Does the City of Brainerd have a curfew?

Yes, the City of Brainerd has a curfew. The basic curfew is:
Minors 15 years of age and under: 10:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.
Minors 16 and 17 years of age: Commencing at 11:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursdays until 5:00 a.m. the following morning, and 12:01 a.m. – 5:00 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Will the Brainerd Police Department register the serial number of my bicycle?

The Brainerd Police Department does not maintain a registry of bicycle serial numbers. It is the owner’s responsibility to maintain serial number information.

Where do I pay a parking ticket?

Payments for parking tickets issued by the Brainerd Police Department are receipted at the Brainerd Police Department, 225 East River Road, Brainerd, MN 56401. Payments can be made in person or by mail; however, if payment of the fine is not received at our office within ten (10) calendar days of the date the ticket was issued, the fine will double. Unfortunately the Brainerd Police Department is unable to accept credit or debit card payments at this time.

Can I appeal a parking ticket? If so, what is the process for doing so?

If you have a dispute with a parking ticket that was issued by the Brainerd Police Department, the process to appeal is as follows:

Complete a Parking Ticket Appeal Form.
Mail or hand deliver the appeal form to the Brainerd Police Department (225 East River Road, Brainerd, MN 56401).
A copy of the parking ticket must accompany the Parking Ticket Appeal form.
Your appeal form will be forwarded to the Chief of Police or to the Deputy Chief of Police for review.
You will be contacted should they have questions or require further explanation.
You will be contacted via telephone as to the outcome of the appeal.

If your appeal is denied, you will have ten (10) calendar days from the date of notification in which to pay the fine. If payment of the fine is not received at our office within ten (10) calendar days from the date of notification, the fine will double.

What can I do if someone is parked in my rented parking space?

If someone is parked in your rented parking space you may contact a towing company and have the vehicle towed away at the owner’s expense. Please notify the Brainerd Police Department if you have a vehicle towed. This will enable our office to direct the owner of the vehicle to the appropriate towing company should the owner contact our office with regard to their missing vehicle.

Where do I pay a ticket / citation / fine?

Payment for fines is now receipted at the Minnesota Court Payment Center.

To pay on-line, visit www.mncourts.gov. You will need either your ticket/citation number or your file number to access your fine.

To pay by phone with a credit/debit card, call 1-800-657-3611. You will need either your ticket/citation number or your file number to access your fine.

To pay by mail, send your check (made payable to the Minnesota Court Payment Center) and a copy of your ticket/citation to Minnesota Court Payment Center, PO Box 898, Willmar, MN 56201.

If you have received a citation for no proof of insurance and the vehicle you were driving was insured on the date and time of the offense, a copy of the insurance coverage card for the vehicle/a letter from the insurance agent/or a copy of the insurance policy may be faxed to the Court Payment Center at 320-231-6507 on or before the fine due date. If you are charged with another payable violation along with no proof of insurance, you may mail your payment for that violation along with your proof of insurance to the Minnesota Court Payment Center.

How do I contact a jail inmate?

There is one jail in Crow Wing County and it is an entity of the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office. The jail, which is totally separate from the Brainerd Police Department, is located at 313 Laurel Street, Brainerd.
