Hunting Regulations

Hunting in the City Limits of Brainerd

The Brainerd Police Department recognizes the long tradition of hunting in this area, and value in this form of recreation and wishes to continue to promote this where it is safe and prudent in our area.

In order to maintain the safety of residents and other outdoor enthusiasts, some regulations have been enacted to cover hunting within the City Limits of Brainerd. All hunters must complete the City of Brainerd Hunting/Firearm Permit Application (PDF) and submit this to the Brainerd Police Department to receive a permit to hunt. This is free of charge. The application is listed under forms on our website, or can be obtained at our office Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This application is separate and in addition to any other permits to acquire, permits to carry, and other hunting license that may be required. Permits to discharge a firearm within the city limits will only be issued for private property 5 acres or more, and with the land owner’s written permission, if the applicant does not own the property.

Permits will also be required for archery hunting within the city limits and are covered under the Hunting/Firearm Permit Application (PDF).

Please make note of the city map found on our website for determining if the property is within the city limits. Special attention should be paid to the Mississippi River area as property boundaries are irregular in this area.
