​South 6th Street Reconstruction - Joseph Street to Washington Street - Improvement 12-14 - 2018 Construction


The Minnesota Department of Transportation in conjunction with the City of Brainerd are planning a reconstruction of South 6th Street (Business 371).  This will include replacement of all curb and gutter, sidewalk, watermain, sanitary sewer main, storm sewer, and surfacing along the route.  
This project is scheduled for 2018.

NW Brainerd Street Resurfacing Project - 11 Blocks of Street Resurfacing in NW Brainerd - Improvement 16-10 - 2017 Construction


The City of Brainerd is currently in the design phase to resurface 11 blocks of street in NW Brainerd.  The streets currently in the design phase can be seen below:

  • NW 8th Street: Charles Street to Washington Street and Washington Street to James Street
  • NW 7th Street: Charles Street to Washington Street
  • NW 5th Street: Williams Street to Washington Street
  • NW 3rd Street: Washington Street to James Street
  • James Street: NW 8th Street to NW 6th Street and NW 4th Street to NW 2nd Street
  • Williams Street: NW 5th Street to NW 4th Street
This work consists of removing the existing bituminous and gravel section, preparing a new sub-grade, and rebuilding a new section to a 9 Ton design standard with new gravel base and bituminous surfacing.  There is also minor curb and gutter, driveway and storm sewer work to be done in conjunction with this project.  Project is projected to be started and completed in the spring/summer/fall of 2017.

​South 6th Street East Frontage Road Reconstruction Project - CR 117 (Industrial Park Road) to Wright Street - Improvement 15-12 - 2017 Construction


The City of Brainerd is currently in the design phase to reconstruct the S 6th Street East Frontage Road from CR 117 (Industrial Park Road) to Wright Street.  

This work consists or removing the existing bituminous and gravel section, preparing and re-grading the entire sub-grade, placement of new storm sewer and curb and gutter, and replacement of the gravel and bituminous section to meet a 7 Ton design standard.  The project is projected to be started and completed in the spring/summer/fall of 2017.

​Oak Street Mill and Overlay - S 6th Street to SE 19th Street - Improvement 14-01 (SAP 108-113-007) - 2017 Construction



The City of Brainerd is currently in the final design phase for a Municipal State Aid Mill and Overlay Project on Oak Street from S 6th Street (TH 371B) to SE 19th Street.  

This work will consist of milling the existing pavement 1.5" and overlaying the milled section with 3" of bituminous pavement.  The added thickness will address the severe rutting that is currently occurring.  Along with the project, the City will be replacing all of the curb ramps to be in compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards.  Along with curb ramp replacement comes replacement of curb and gutter around the curb ramp and topsoil restoration.  The project is planned to be completed in the summer of 2017.  The project will be done in conjunction with two other State Aid Projects on Jackson Street and Buffalo Hills Lane.

Traffic will be maintained throughout construction with no planned detours at this time.

​Jackson Street Resurfacing and Sidewalk Project - NW 4th Street to West Brainerd City Limits - Improvement 14-03 (SAP 108-129-002) - 2017 Construction


The City of Brainerd is currently in the final design phase for a Municipal State Aid Resurfacing Project on Jackson Street from NW 4th Street to the West Brainerd City Limits.  

This work will consist of removing the existing gravel and pavement section, preparing a new sub-grade section, and placing a new gravel and bituminous section to meet 9 Ton design standards.  The project will also consist of placing a sidewalk on the south side of the street that will connect from NW 4th Street to the back of the mall at NW 7th Street.  Minor curb and gutter, driveway and storm sewer work will also happen as part of the project.  The project is planned to be completed in the spring to early summer of 2017.  The project will be done in conjunction with two other Municipal State Aid Projects on Oak Street and Buffalo Hills Lane.

A detour will be utilized during construction, however, local traffic will be allowed to traverse through the work area on a limited basis.  The detour will entail Baxter Drive, TH 210, and NW 4th Street.

Buffalo Hills Lane Resurfacing Project - S 6th Street to Graydon Avenue - Improvement 16-13 (SAP 108-136-003) - 2017 Construction


The City of Brainerd is currently in the final design phase for a Municipal State Aid Resurfacing Project on Buffalo Hills Lane from S 6th Street (TH 371B) to Graydon Avenue.  

This work will consist of removing the existing gravel and pavement section, preparing a new sub-grade section, and placing a new gravel and bituminous section to meet 9 Ton design standards.  The project will also consist of minor ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Improvements to curb ramps on existing sidewalk and an additional curb ramp to improve accessibility.  Minor curb and gutter, driveway and storm sewer work will also happen as part of the project.  The project is planned to be completed in the summer of 2017.  The project will be done in conjunction with two other Municipal State Aid Projects on Oak Street and Jackson Street.

A detour will be utilized during construction, however, local traffic will be allowed to traverse through the work area on a limited basis.  The detour will utilize Crestview Lane, Woodland Hills Lane, Greenwood Street, and S 6th Street (TH 371B).
